The Union had  2,896   lost /killed   soldiers. The confederate had 1,982 lostt/killed soldiers.

  • McDowell crossed at Sudley Ford attacked. He attacked the Confederate left flank on Matthews Hill. Fighting raged throughout the day as Confederate forces were driven back to Henry Hill.Later that day the Confederate reinforcements  extended and broke the Union right flank.
