I am Moses. My job is to lead the chosen people to the promised land
I am Joshua. I led the Chosen People into battle with others living in this land
The Patriarchs were 3 men. God promise these men that he would keep them safe and give them land. These 3 men were the ones God chose to share the Jewish faith with The Chosen People.
God gave Moses this job. he had to lead them from Egypt and it took 40 years. in this journey God gave Moses the ten commandments. These were rules for the chosen people to follow to make God happy. Moses died when he was 120 years old. He did not make it into the Promised Land. After he died, Joshua led the people. They had to battle with people living in the promised land
I am King Herod. I was chosen by the Romans to rule the Jewish people. I was in change when Jesus was born
The Jewish people wanted a leader. King Saul was the first king. He liked to fight and he divided the Jewish people. After Saul, there was King David. People loved him very much. Then there was his son, Solomon. He built the great Temple and the Jews liked him before he made them pay taxes. The people ruled themselves like this for a long while before the Greeks took over.
I am Jesus. Eventually, the Romans would have me put to death. But before that, life was good
The Greeks took control of the Jewish land and named it Palestine. The Jewish people wanted to be independent and they fought against the Greeks. The Greeks got mad and attacked the Temple. After this, The Greeks gave the Jews their independence. The Jewish people had to rule themselves. 3 Political parties were created (The Sadducees, Pharisees and the Essenes).
King Herod was the King of the Jews. He was picked by the Romans to rule. King Herod was in charge when Jesus was born. After King Herod, his sons led the Jewish people. His sons were not good rulers. The Prophets told the Jewish people that a Saviour would come. The Jewish people thought that this saviour would overthrow the Romans. Jesus was different because he fought with peace.
In Jesus' time, the land of Palestine was male dominated. This means males had jobs and they had to take care of their family. The temperature was about 23 degrees, and the Jewish people did a lot of farming. They grew fruit and wheat. "Breaking Bread" was a symbol of friendship. Slavery also existed in Jesus' time.
