  • When the British government took over many people left their territory. The Cape colony became a British land.
  • Revolution
  • A war broke out between the Boers and British because of failed attempt of keeping the British from opening Mines. After years of fighting British took victory. In 1910 it was the start of South Africas system of racial segregassion called Apartheid.
  • Recovery
  • HEAL WOUNDS FROM THE PAST 
  • A group called The African National Congress was a group that fought against apartheid. It was the most popular group. Representative's from the group disobeyed the apartheid laws. An increasing amount of white South Africans joined the marches and strikes. Eventually ANC was banned by the govenment.
  • In 1960 police shot up on peaceful demonstrators in Sharpeville. More than 60 died and more than 180 were injured. Many Africans rioted and protested and no longer wanted to wait for change. Thousands upon thousands of black South Africans died in the next 15 month
  • WE WANT CHANGE!!
  • F.W. de klerk was elected for president in 1989. He released people from prison and re gathered the ANC. Except violence did not come to an end at this point. In 1994 Nelson Mandela was elected for president. He called all people to heal wounds of the past. Mandela faced obsticals of being poor
