Phew, man, all I need now is a can of beer and a red-hot.
McMurphy gets up and turns up the sound to drown out the music coming from the speaker in the ceiling, and he drags another chair infront of him and sits down and crosses his feet onto the chair, leans back and lights his cigarette. He scratches his belly and yawns. (Kesey, 143)
We can see nurse ratched's face start turning red and her mouth work as she stares at him. (Kesey, 143)
She looks around to see if anyone is watching to see what is going to do, she then gets up and walks over to the steel door where the controls are and then she flips a switch and the TV screen turns gray. Nothing is left on the screen except a little eye of light beading down on McMurphy. (Kesey, 143)
That eye don't faze him a bit. To tell you the truth, he don't say he knows the picture is turned off, he puts his cigarette between his teeth and pushes his cap forward in his hair till he has to lean back to see from under the brim... then he just watches TV. (Kesey, 144)
Harding shuts off his buffer, and laves it in the hall, and goes and pulls up a char beside McMurphy and lights him a cigarette too. Then Cheswick, billy, scanton, fredrickson, and sefelt all stop the jobs they were doing to pull up a chair with McMurphy and watch the blank TV. (Kesey, 145)
If someone came and took a look at men looking at a blank TV, a 50 year old woman yelling at the back of their heads about order and discipline they would have thought the while bunch was crazy loons. (Kesey, 145)
