Hello I'm Mohandas Gandhi I'm a Hindu which means I believe that all living thing are sacred things.
While im here i might as well tell you more about my self I was born October 2, 1869 at Porbandar, a city in British-ruled western India.
around age 19 I'd study law in London and I'd also joined a vegetarian society
I was married at age 13
Once I marched 240 miles to the beach to make salt to break the salt tax law. This was the salt march and I was name man of the year for TIME news article, The reason for the salt march was to bring equal rights for my people and rid of discrimination. My vision of my home country India was that of a non-violent and democratic social order in which there is a just balance between individual freedom and social responsibility.
I've been in jail multiple times but not for killing, stealing, or being crazy unless you call peaceful protest crazy, then you should be in jail. I'd be in jail for peaceful protesting against British law. I've been in jail a total of 2,338 days or 6.41 years. My time in jail have showed that British do not want equality for anyone expect them self. I wish I could show them that all life is sacred.
Sometime people ask why, why did I stick to non-violent the main reason was because I am a Hindu and I believe that all life is scared and for that reason I stick to non-violent protest. My contribution to the idea of non-violent resistance, sometime called civil resistance. Their are two pillars in Hinduism they are Truth and Non-violent protest.
British rule in India began in 1858 because India troops serving in the British East India Company started rebelling against British rule.
