The Merchant of Venice pt.2
Shylock hears of Antonio's misfortune and decides to use the opportunity to revenge himself upon Antonio.
I'll plague him; I'll torture him.
Shylock attempts to legally pursue his bond: to cut a pound of flesh from Antonio's body. Portia and her friend Nerissa arrive disguised by lawyers to help Antonio.
Shylock is delighted that his bond is in pursuit. He is ready to take a pound of Antonio's flesh.
Portia intervenes and saves Antonio's life. Shylock realizes he has been outmaneuvered and tries to take the ducats instead. However, he is charged with attempting to take the life of Antonio.
If in taking his pound of flesh, Shylock sheds one drop of Christian blood his worldly possessions will be seized by the state of Venice and he will die.
Portia and Nerissa tell their husbands about their part in the trial.
The Duke pardons Shylock and he is not put to death. However, he must become Christian and leave all his money to his daughter and her new husband. Shylock has lost everything.
