Storyboard Description

Student with ASD Self-Advocating - Gym Class Parachute Game/Bear

Storyboard Text

  • Mrs. Gruver, I don't want to go to gym today.
  • What is wrong, Billy?  I notice that you look upset.
  • Well, I just don't wanna go!  I hate the parachute game!  It is just stupid.
  • Typically you like gym.  Is there something more to it?  You can tell me so we can work on it together. Come over here and we can figure it out.
  • I am scared because Coach said we are playing a game and there is going to be a bear there today.
  • I am so glad you told me your feelings. Coach is just  pretending he is a bear in the game.   There is not really going to be a bear there.
  • I am so glad that you shared your feelings me.  Coach pretends to be a bear in this game. He looks the same but will roar like a bear.  You just have to run under the parachute.  It is pretend like when you play with your dinosaur figures.  They are not real.
  • Well, I just don't want him to come too close to me or grab me. It will make me scared.
  • How about I walk you to class and help you explain this to Coach?  It is important to voice our feelings so people understand us better.
  • Thanks for letting me know.  I will not grab you during the game since I know it makes you scared.
  • Coach, umm... I get umm... scared when people get too close to me and touch me.
  • Coach, Billy has something that he would like to make you aware of concerning the game in gym class today.
  • Billy, you are doing well participating in the parachute game.
  • This game is fun! I am not scared anymore!
