Theme: Fear and Suspicion Are Destructive Forces
Evidence 1: "You killed him Charlie, you shot him dead"
Evidence 2: "It must have been him. He's the one, we got to get Charlie"
He's the One!
Evidence 3: " They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find... and it's themselves"
Fear and Suspicion are destructed forces. In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, It shows that this theme is true. It shows that the people of maple street are very suspicious and fearful when it comes to a power outage. You can see this from, " You killed him Charlie, you shot him dead". Also " It must have been him, he's the one, we got to get Charlie. These quotes for the teleplay show that they assume that Charlie is the monster because of fear and suspicion. Because of that people choose to frame others because of things they have seen them do because of fear and suspicion. In quote one it shows how the fear took over Charlie causing him to shoot at the unknown figure which turned out to be Peter Van Horn. In the second quote it says "It must have been him, he's the one, we have to get Charlie', The Fear and Suspicion took them over because they don't for sure know if Charlie was the monster and was responsible for all of what happened. But the third quote from the Aliens, "They pick the most dangerous enemy the can find... and it's themselves", Is true because when weird things happen like a power outage they turn against themselves instead of figuring out what is wrong.
