Storyboard Text

  • The Story of the Cold War a Comic by Jake Berger
  • The Cold War was not a war in its truest sense. It was a hostile competition between the Americans and the Soviets over being the best. The space race was one major point of conflict.
  • Tensions further when the USA joined NATO, an alliance with many countries including France and Belgium. The Soviets retaliated by forming the Warsaw Pact with its allies.
  • During the Cold War, Canada changed its political identity. The nation adopted more liberal policies such as universal healthcare and other social welfare programs.
  • The USA and the Soviet Union were at opposite ends of the spectrum, politically. The Americans were devoted to capitalism, while the Soviets were actively trying to spread communism. This led to hostile relations between the two.
  • The Cold War began to come to an end due to cooperation between Soviet leader Gorbachev and American president Reagan. The two had summit meetings and eased relations significantly, though the end only came once the Soviet Union fell.
