Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd Lincoln arrive at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. on April 15, 1865 to see "Our American Cousin." Major Henry Rathbone and his fiance Clara Harris would be joining them.

John Wilkes Booth was a famous American actor and Southern sympathizer who was planning to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. He didn't want African Americans to be free.
During the play Booth snuck into the box and shot Lincoln in the head. He had timed it with the laughter of the crowd so no one could notice the gun fire .
After shooting Lincoln in the head and stabbing Lincoln, Booth leaped out of the Presidential Box and down to the stage. He broke he leg and gave the audience his final words to the audience.
Sic semper tyrannis
Booth ran away with David Herald and stopped to get his leg repaired by a Doctor Samuel Mudd. After ten days of hiding they were found on April 26, 1865. Soldiers burned down a barn they were in. Herald surrendered, Booth was shot in the neck.
