Gabriel had not cried during the long freighting journey. Now he did. He cried because he was hungry and cold and terribly weak. Jonas cried, too, for the same reasons, and another reason ass well. He wept because he was afraid he could not save Gabriel. He no longer cared about himself (Lowry 218)
Rescue from without
Crossing the Threshold
In the begging Jonas at the ceremony of 12 was given a Call to adventure in the form of being selected as the new receiver of memory. Which was depicted with no color and a medium shot of Jonas and the chief. Next the refusal to the call which was Jonas having droughts about it, thinking he couldn't. The begging of the adventure is Jonas accepting that he is the new receiver and has to go through it. The road of trials is Jonas taking the memories from the giver, and felling all theses horrible things. Next was the unconditional love given to him by the Giver who would give him happy memories after all the horrible ones. The ultimate boom is Jonas gaining wisdom and knowledge after learning the truth of release. The refuse of the return is when Jonas refuses to go back to his home saying that his dads a killer. The magic flight is Jonas leaving the community with Gabriel to share the memories with the community. The rescue from without is Jonas sharing the last of his memories with Gabe to keep him alive. And the Crossing the threshold is Jonas and Gabriel sledding into a new community. For the first half we used no color because Jonas couldn't see it at the time and a variety of angles based on the moment and Jonas's feelings.
He pressed his hands on Gabriel's back and tried to remember sunshine. For a moment it seemed that nothing came to him, that his power was completely gone. Then it flickers suddenly, and he felt tiny tongues of heat begin to creep across and into his frozen feet and legs. He felt his face begin to glow and the tense, cold skin of his arms and hands relax. For a fleeting second he felt that he wanted to keep it for himself, to let himself bathe in sunlight, unburdened by anything or anyone else(Lowry 221)
Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below ahead, they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting too, for the baby. For the first time, he heard something that he knew to e music. He heard people singing. (Lowry 223)
