  • Masquerade Party
  • Mysterious figure appears
  • The Red Death has taken over much of Prince Prospero's realm, so he decides to invite his best nobles, knights, and women in his abbey to hide from the plague. This scene portrays his inner life and motivations because he wants to protect only a select few from the plague.
  • Prospero chases the figure
  • After 6 months, the prince decides to hold a masquerade party in 7 rooms in his abbey, each a different color. The last room is black with red windows and everyone is too freaked out to go in there. The party is energy-filled with happiness.
  • Prospero is killed
  • The grandfather clock rings at midnight, and a mysterious figure dressed as a plague victim appears in the blue room.
  • Red Death is victorious
  • Prince Prospero is angry at the figure for disrespecting his party and chases him through the seven rooms into the black room with a knife. This scene portrays that humans are not naturally good because the prince wants to execute the figure.
  • In the black room, the figure faces the prince, and the prince dies instantly. This scene portrays elements of fantasy and supernatural, because without even making contact, the figure murders the prince.
  • The guests try to capture the figure, but discover it is the Red Death itself. The clock stops, the candles go out, every guest dies, and the party ends. The Red Death becomes victorious.
