In the beginning of the story we learn that the king of Denmark had died and Hamlet, the prince, is very sad. He then was told by his friends that they saw the ghost of his father the king.
Hamlet is very upset about what has happened including his mother's quick remarriage to his Uncle Claudius. He knows that he must avenge his father's murder and make things right.
Hamlet is internally conflicted and realizes a way to make Claudius confess to killing his father. He comes up with the idea to have a play performed to reflect the murder of his father to see if Claudius reacts.
Hamlet is so filled with rage that he follows his father and is planning to kill him. But then he sees that his praying and he can't kill Claudius then. He realizes that he must not kill him when he is in a holy place. He knows he must kill him in when he is doing something unholy.
Later on in the story Hamlet is arguing with his mother Gertrude and fighting with her. He comes to a point and notices that someone is behind the curtain. This person is polonius. Hamlet then kills him thinking that the person is the king Claudius.
After her father's death Ophelia goes crazy in the head. She begins singing random songs all of the time. Then as time passes she feels driven to end her life. She ends up drowning herself in the river. This event leads to Laertes anger and eventual fight between him and Hamlet.
