One-Pager Character Analysis

Regret- At first, Hale was very adamant about finding and accusing witches in Salem. After some time however, especially after John Proctor is arrested, he realized that the trials in Salem were corrupt
Action- Hale leaves Salem for some time to go to Andover, a nearby town. He finds that the village has revolted against the court due to corruption in the court. When he returns, he realizes that the same thing is happening in Salem. He tries to correct his mistakes by trying to get the accused to confess.
I didn't really like Reverend Hale. I feel as though he could have used his standing as an official in the court to save more lives. He sort of just stood by as people died around him. It wasn't until John Proctor was set to hang that he realized the outcome of him being a bystander.
Fallible- Proctor is a good man and upholds good beliefs and values, however, in times of weakness he gives in to adultery. John has a good name in the village and is very worried to ruin his reputation when he has to admit adultery to the court. However, he is willing to do so to prove that Abigail Williams is lying about witchery.
Action- After being accused of being a witch and being imprisoned, John confesses his "crimes". However, he is told he must sign his name on a posted confession. This infuriates John as he realizes that the judge is trying ruin his name. He recants his confession and decides he would rather die than have his name tarnished at the hands of the judge. So he decides to hang.
Favorite Quote- "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"
I liked John Proctor. He was a solid character and was such a chill guy even with all the things happening in Salem. He was packed full of clapbacks and was brave enough to die for what believed was right.
