The paleo period was the first Native American cultural group in North America. These people traveled around the continent during the ice age. These people were nomadic which means they followed their food and had no defined region as their permanent home.They lived 10,000 years age.
#2 ARCHAIC PERIOD
They started at the end of ice age.The Archaic people relied on small animals like deer,turkey,and rabbit.When north America began getting warmer the archaic people lived off berries and other plants.The Archaic people were hunters and gatherers which meant they hunted deer and turkey and gathered plants to eat.
#3 WOODLAND PERIOD
This period started around 1000 B.C and lasted until 1000.A.D.During this time woodland people developed horticulture.Horticulture is the process of growing crops for food.During these previous two periods the Native Americans would live in small groups and move from one area to the next.They started to form tribes and make permanent villages.They used the technique called the wattle and daub.
This period began around 1,000 A.D.Learning from their ancestors these people used agriculure skills to grow food.They also stored food in storehouses for later use.With access to a wide variety of foods the mississippian people were able to develop large settlements with moats and fences for protection against other tribes.They created mounds for holding meetings in or on top and for burrying the dead.Some died of diseases some stayed alive to trade with the Europeans.
#4 MISSISSIPPIAN PERIOD
Hernando de soto is a Spanish explorer who came there in search of gold and riches .He also came to spread his religion of catholicism so the trip was basically a missionary.
Hernando tried to spread his religion.But ended up enslaving the Natives.
