After being arrested for a crime he didn't commit, having Clyde Livingston's shoes Stanley Yelnats was sent to camp Green Lake. which turned out to be awful there was no lake, and no fun. Just digging holes every day. Stanley blames his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather of cursing his family. He never carried a gypsy up a mountain to drink from a stream. Her name was madame Zeroni and he was Elya Yelnats.
After meeting a a friend named Hector Zeroni, the boys run away because they are tied of digging holes. Stanley's great grandfather was robbed in the desert and found refuge on "god's Thumb" where he survived for 17 days on water and onions. Stanley and Hector eventually went back to camp to find a buried chest of loot from his Great Grandpa. When they found it the mostly deadliest creature in the desert came out and almost killed them, fortunately they survived and got 1 million dollars each. and both left camp green lake. Stanley had enough money to buy a house for his family. and Hector hired a team of private investigators to find his parents. Stanley's dad invented something that solved foot odor and made lots of
