THE COMING OF BEOWULF Kenning: mankind enemy Fate:If he wins and if death does take me Hero: My hands alone man fight for me, struggle for life against the monster.
THE BATTLE WITH GRENDEL Kenning: Screams of the almighty's enemy Fate: Grendel escaped but wounded as he could flee to his den. His miserable hole at the bottom of the marsh, only to die, to wait for the end of all his day. Hero: Beowulf, prince of the great had killed Grendel.
THE MONSTER'S LAIR Kenning: wolf-den Fate: you will be rewarded for the battle you win. Hero: Are our only help, again lies with you.
THE BATTLE WITH GRENDEL'S MOTHER Kenning: The witch of water Fate: Beowulf once freed proceded to fight Grendel mother but fate had decided that no mortal power could defeat her. Hero: For hours he sank through the waves.
THE LAST BATTLE Kenning: Streaming current of fire Fate: The monster came quickly toward him, pouring out fire and smoke, hurrying to its fate. Hero: Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong and with his shield at his side and a mail shirt on his breast, strode calmly confident toward the tower under the rocky cliffs no coward could have walked there.
