Robespierre emerged as chief of the Committee of Public Safety. He did not preside over this new religion for long. On July 27th, his opponents committed a takeover, and Robespierre was executed the next day.
The Thermidorian Reaction was a phases of the tempering revolution, with an establishment of a new constitutional regime. Wealthy middle-class, and professionals were influenced.Provincial uprising had been crushed and war against foreign enemies were going great. This resulted in the closing of the Jacobin Club of Paris.

On October 5th, 1795, when a Paris mob invaded, Napoleon Bonaparte, commanded a cannon which dispersed the crowd. He helped defend the National Convention.
Run! Napoleon set the cannon!
On December 1799, Bonaparte overthrew the Directory and issued the Constitution of the Year VII. This resulted in his new title of First Consul. The constitution was approved. The government called the Consulate brought the Revolution to an end.

On July 1801, Bonaparte concluded a concordat with Pope Pius VII. All of the clergy were forced to resign. It solidified the Roman Catholic Church as the majority church of France and brought back most of its civil status.
