Storyboard Text

  • Well, since we’ve already declared our independence from England, with the Declaration of Independence, we can make out new government anyway we want.
  • Now that the first shot at government , the Articles of Confederation, didn’t work out, we need to try something different.
  • What would that be?
  • I think that we should create a plan where the bigger states with the larger population would have more of a input in vote. And we shall call it the Virginia Plan.
  • But, it already is unfair.
  • No, I totally disagree because their are so many states that would be considered to be unfair.
  • You know what, maybe we should try and create a compromise between both plans. So that everyone gets what they want.
  • Both: That is a great compromise
  • I think that the all states have the same amount of representatives in the house. This plan should be called the New Jersey Plan.
  • And the people will be included too! They can vote for a president and slaves in the south will be regarded as three-fifths of a person for the purpos of state representation.
  • Now, since that's finished, we will divide the power among three branches.
  • And in order to keep one branch from becoming too powerful, we can use checks and balances, so they must go through each other to make big decisions.
  • How about a legislative branch to make laws, an executive branch to enforce them, and a judicial branch to interpret them.
  • During this constitutional convention, we've made some great decision about how to run this country, but we need to decide what the three branches of government will be.
  • We the government and citizens have decided that we are going to be creating the Bill of Rights so that each citizens have the rights to protect themselves in the future. Now begins ratification and we will need the vote of 9/13 states. This’ll be a piece of cake.
  • But the rights of the people are the rights that haven’t been listed, I don't’ see a problem.
  • This is completely point less to write the Constitution without a Bill of Rights.
