A star is born from a planetary nebula. This is caused by the nebula condensing under it's own gravity.
A star shines for millions of years until all the hydrogen is converted into helium through nuclear fusion.
As the star continues to age, different elements are made into shells that surround the core.
On an H-R Diagram the luminosity is directly related to the temperature of the star, So as a star ages it rises up the diagram.
A supernova occurs when a star's own mass is so great it collapses onto itself and explodes.
After the supernova a black hole or a neutron star will be the result of the explosion.
