  • Through chain of infection.
  • What's that?

  • Doc, How did I get Colds?
  • Second link is Reservoir, where pathogens require for survival. Reservoirs can be Humans or animals. This can be broken down by medical treatment, quarantine etc.
  • It's a chain made up of 6 diff. links. The first link is PATHOGEN. The Disease-causing organism.
  •      Third link is the portal of exit.,where it is needed for the pathogen to leave the reservoir. If the reservoir is a human, then the portal of exit may be saliva, feces etc.
  • The fourth link is the means of transmission. The pathogencan be transmitted either directly or indirectly.
  • The link can be broken through hand washing, safe sex practices, or avoiding contact with infected individuals.
  • Fifth link is the portal of entry.
  • The final link is the new host
  • Entry of the pathogen can take place in one of three ways: penetration, inhalation, or ingestion.
