The strict code of conduct that the samurai had to follow was known as Bushido. If they broke Bushido they would have to commit something called seppuku which was grosum but a quick death.
It was also thought if you lost a battle that it was better to die than to be captured so, Samurai would commit seppuku which was believed to be the honorable death.
An average Japanese person's diet back then basically consisted of rice and fish, and their clothing was animal fur and some types of plants.
