Storyboard Text

  • Working on farms
  • Or working in factories?
  • I just got a new job a textile mill!
  • This textile mill produces gear for the Union army so they can defeat the Confederate army to preserve the Union.
  • The main part of the economy in the North was factories.
  • I am a Union farmer who is helping in the war effort and feeding the entire Union.
  • During the Civil War, factories provided jobs for people because the men who once working there are in the army.
  • We will defeat the south!!!!!!
  • When these new workers started they produced Uniforms, Weapons and Gear for the soldiers.
  • The factories in the North helped us bring the Union back together by giving the army supplies.
  • The North had farms that used machines, instead of slaves, that produced more crops then the South. This was also enough to feed the entire union including the soldiers.
  • This helps us understand the Northern economy because they mainly consisted of factories that produced goods. The economy helped the country by helping the Union with the war. The factories provided the goods that were necessary for bringing the Union back together.
  • 90% of factories in the U.S. were in the Northern states. This surprised me because I thought that the Southern states had more than 10%.
