Storyboard Text

  • Hi everyone! I am your new teacher and I am excited to tell you about my life!
  • I was born as a happy limestone rock
  • One day, I was sitting by a convergent plate boundary and I started to feel squeezed
  • The squeezing continued for millions of years
  • Now that I am all turned into marble, I am happier than ever!
  • Since I am done changing for now, I want to talk to all of you about what marble is, how it is used, and where it is found!
  • It also takes a lot of pressure and/or heat for limestone the change to happen
  • Limestone is a metamorphic rock that is composed mainly of calcium carbonate in the form of mineral calcite
  • Marble is made from limestone
  • It takes millions of years for limestone to change into marble
  • Marble forms around convergent plate boundaries where large areas of Earth's crust are exposed to regional metamorphism
  • Some marble also forms by contact metamorphism when a hot magma body heats adjacent limestone or dolostone
  • People also use marble for buildings because of its beauty. An example is the Washington Monument
  • There are many uses for marble!
  • Marble is used for countertops in homes
  • It is also used in homes as stair treads, risers, and floor tiles
