Explicit content in newspapers and nationalist reporting became known as yellow journalism which came from the "yellow kid".
The Journal was trying to compete with the World newspaper and created its own "yellow kid". The two papers were in competition. The Journal threw their support away for the Cuban *oppointents* and didn't want to use and spanish sources for any of their sources.
The Journal newspaper sale had went up. They got more press than World newspapers. People liked all the dramatic things they were putting in their papers.
Heareest felt that they should interrupt Cuba. THe Journal continued about war. Hearst sent his artist Frederic Remington to Cuba to create illustrations showing how Spain was cruel. He put those pictures into a newspaper to start trouble with Spain.
