The king spends the night at the poor mans house and in the morning leaves, but before he does so he tells the poor man to wish three wishes and he would grant them. So the poor man wishes for eternal happiness, they both may be healthy and have every day their daily bread. The poor man also wishes for a new house. The next day the rich man notices the poor mans new house and asks how he got it. The poor man says that a guy came along and gave me three wishes so I wished for a new house.
The rich man goes out to find the guy so that he could also get three wishes on his horse. When he finds the lord, the rich man asks if he too could have three wishes for spending the night the next time he comes. So the lord says yes and bids him farewell.
On his way home he thinks about what three things he wants in his life, but he can only think of one. His horse was annoying him so much because he couldn't think so he wishes for his horse to break its neck. Then his horse dies and he had to walk all the way home with the saddle on his back. He was so tired and mad at his horse that he wished his wife would be sitting on the saddle and for it to never come off and it came true.
At home his wife was sitting on the saddle and was really mad at the rich man and told him to wish for her no to be stuck sitting on the saddle. Then the rich man used his last wish and in the end the rich man got nothing but his dead horse.
The poor man lived a happy and healthy life while the rich man lived a abusive and sad life.
