Storyboard Text

  • Hasty or Sweeping Generalization
  • The three people I know from Eagleton are snobby, rude, and judgmental. Therefore, everyone from Eagleton is snobby, rude, and judgmental.
  • Stereotyping
  • All cops love donuts!!
  • Uhh.. I don't.
  • Misleading Statistic
  • I read from a magazine that 97% of people prefer waffles over pancakes.
  • Just because some people of the same group act in one particular way does not mean that the rest of the people in their population are all the same, too.
  • Non Sequitur
  • Just because it is assumed that a whole population will behave in a particular way. does not mean that an individual person will also be likely to follow in those expected manners as well.  To each their own!
  • Post Hoc
  • Every time I use this pen, my ideas are always approved by the board. Therefore, I will always use this pen since writing with it helps me come up with good, likeable ideas.
  • Some statistics are inaccurate as the samples they are taken from may be small and biased. Because of the way it can be phrased to seem like it is sound, people are often misled.
  • Red Herring
  • Ben, you need to treat yo self. Let's go to the spa.
  • Make sure to have a valid and sound reason to back up your claim, and avoid random, unrelated reasons to situations like this. (Yes, Anne is beautiful, but what does that have to do with being president?)
  • Anne is so beautiful, she should become the next president because she is a gorgeous, wonderful tropical fish.
  • Post hoc is how a person may believe that if something happens, it is directly from the reason of another thing that may not even be relevant to the situation that occurred.
  • A red herring occurs when a diversion is used to go away from the original topic being discussed. It is a distraction to avoid what you do not want to happen.
  • Look at those cool cars over there!!
