Storyboard Text

  • Hello Cuba. I am back, but this time I have different plans.
  • The elections are cancelled!
  • In 1952, Fulgencio Batista returned to power in Cuba. He served as president from 1940 to 1944. He was seen as more of a progressive in his first period of rule.
  • HELP!
  • Now they will not rebel...
  • Batista immediatly cancelled the scheduled 1952 elections. He entered his second rule with a dictorial approach.
  • Batista is terrible! He must go!
  • Batista lost support from many Cubans. Student groups particularly opposed Batista's rule. Batista had links to organized crime and allowed American corporations to have abundant control over the Cuban Economy which angered more people.
  • Our fight is not done yet...
  • In response to the rioting and frequent demonstrations, Batista censored the media to a greater extent. Also, Batista created an agency to carry out wide-spread violence, torture and public executions.
  • Fidel Castro, a young laywer and activist, petitioned the Cuban government to overthrow Batista. Castro exposed Batista for his corruption and tyranny. Unfortunately, the Cuban government denied Castro.
  • Castro persisted in his fight to end Batista's rule. He planned attacks on the government with his brother, but they failed. The brothers ended up in jail.
