Storyboard Text

  • A couple hundred British convicts, as the British prisons were overflowing, were sent to Australia on 11 ships to create a Penal colony.
  • Upon arrival workers were sent straight to work, setting up tents and clearing the land of rocks and trees.
  • Because of the dry soil it was near impossible to grow crops. The colonists tried the local plants but decided it wasn't a suitable source of food.
  • The work was extremely hard. The trees were thick and tough and the tools were inadequate for the job.
  • Because of the harsh environment in the first colony a ship of convicts went to find somewhere to set up a second colony.
  • They set up a colony America although after a while they were kicked out after protest against the British peoples' unfair laws.
