Griffith reported what is now known as the griffith experiment
The scientific term of my experiment is pneumococcal transformation
His hypothesis was that non pathogenic strain of the bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae) could be induced to take on the disease-causing characteristics of a different strain. A finding which formed the foundation of the transforming principle.
Frederick Griffith reported his experiment in 1928. It was not until a decade after his death that Oswald Avery and others concluded that the transforming agent described by Griffith was DNA, and that DNA carries information within the cell.
I worked at the Liverpool Royal Infirmary, the Joseph Tie Laboratory, and the Royal commissions on Tuberculosis.
Griffiths discovery made an impact because it helped researchers and scientists in the medical community how to discover more efficient antibiotics to treat bacterial infections.
