  • In June 1861, Thaddeus Lowe came up with an idea of making a hot air balloon that could also be used for spying.
  • 
  • Just a few more days to go, and i'm done! 
  • In August later that same year he began to make his first hot air balloon and it took him several days to complete.
  • In that same year Thaddeus Lowe presented his first hot air balloon to President Abraham Lincoln, they also discussed Lowes idea involving the balloon.
  • Hot air balloons are very common today, now they are used for weddings, advertisements, celebrations, photography and so on. 
  • This invention helped in the Civil War because it gave the union soldiers a better aim in targeting the enemy troops.

  • After Lowes invention being a great success, he was awarded the Elliot Cresson Gold Medal.
