- Shokufeh Kavani was only nine when the 1979 Islamic Revolution took place. The eight-year Iran-Iraq War had a deep impact on her.
- At the age of 19, Shokufeh started painting in reaction to the events happening around her.

- Shokufeh Kavani escaped a repressive regime in Iran and came to Australia as a 27-year-old.

- She came to Australia to start a new chapter of her life. When she arrived in Sydney, she immediately fell in love with the Western lifestyle and the numerous opportunities coming her way.
- I just wanted to have a new life. I love the democracy, freedom and the sort of lifestyle that western people enjoy. And that was a good opportunity for me to come because I had a nursing degree, so I wanted to migrate to a new country and have better opportunities in my life.
- Although, understanding the Aussie accent was a challenge. To her, the disarming friendliness of complete strangers in Sydney in those early days was profound.
- Shokufeh is currently working as an operating theatre nurse. She said "Today I’m motivated to do more in my life and art. I read once somewhere that, “You live only once, but if you live it right, once is enough”. " She has said her "greatest achievement is coming to Australia, publishing two books, having several painting exhibitions and studying Genetics.
