  • This is Ben. He is 7 years old and he has autism. He is non- verbal and finds it difficult to communicate with people.
  • UPCARD!
  • Ben attends an after school service to help him improve his communication. He uses communication cards but finds them difficult to use because there are so many. This causes him to get angry and frustrated.
  • one day Ben goes to his after school service and his key worker has an iPad with a new app called Upcard.

  • Upcard is an app based on the picture exchange communication system that Ben had previously used. But it is made easier by having all the images separated into categories making it easier and quicker for ben to communicate.
  • Ben was so happy that he was able to communicate so easily. Because of this app Ben stopped getting angry at himself and others when he was trying to communicate.
  • Ben brought the iPad everywhere he went and could easily communicate with others. His family noticed a huge difference in Ben and how much more happy and confident he was.
