Storyboard Text

  • Hey! I just read John Steinbeck's book, "Of Mice and Men." It was definetely not appropriate for me or any other young people.
  • Yes, I agree. I just finished the book as well and I didn't love the language used in it. Idaho was smart to bring up a ban of the book.
  • I actually agree with School board Trustee Tom Hearn of Idaho in that this book should be preserved.
  • I'm heading to my book club if you would like to join. We will actually be discussing the ban attempt of Steinbeck's book.
  • Just like Idaho member Mary Jo Finney ,who also challenged the book, said: this book is full of negative ideas and is not a quality story.
  • That would be great! I would love to hear what others have to say about that book.
  • You're right. This book should be banned due to its' use of many wrong words.
  • School board Trustee Dave Eubanks said it perfectly, that there is way too much cursing. I wish the Idaho school board would've decided differently.
  • I agree with you guys. Also, the fact that people and animals are being killed continuously during the novel is not right.
  • I wish the Idaho school board members would've banned this book because this book should not be read in any place.
  • Welcome! We were discussing why "Of Mice and Men" should be banned due to its profane language and use of violence, along with major segregation.
  • We were discussing the same problem. The parents of Idaho were objecting to remove this book.
  • Well, the Idaho school board voted 4-1 to preserve the book and I would have to side with the 4 that liked the book.
  • I heard that one english teacher from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho told objecting parents that the use of the N-word is not a reason to remove the book. How wrong is that?!
  • I agree with Dave as well. We can only hope that other states and schools become aware of the negatives included in "Of Mice and Men."
  • Maybe there was too much cursing, but I don't believe this is a reason for banning the book. It wasn't a good enough reason for the Idaho School board.
