Virgil and Dante arrive to the shores of Purgatory from the Lethe River.
The Cato of Utica, guardian of the Purgatory, threatens them, thinking that they are fugitives from Hell.
Dante bathes in the Dew in order to cleanse his sins and wash away the stains from Hell.
When Dante places a reed around his waist, a boat arrives with an angel who brings new souls from The Mouth of Tiber. Casellas was in the boat.
The first ledge has the excommunicate. Their punishment is to tand at the edge of a cliff for thirty times the period they made god wait.
They enter the flower valley, where the preoccupied are. These are kings that did not have time to repent.
