Storyboard Text

  • Character in Beginning: Expert on witchcraft, very confident in his education and his ability to root out evil. Well known.
  • Why did the Character Change: He found out that the accused witches were set up by talking with John Proctor and Giles Corey and using his own logic.
  • How character has changed: In the beginning he did not expect to find witches, but then he found 17, then he later came to the conclusion that they were being set up for various reasons.
  • The Crucible: Reverend Hale
  • Important Lines: "They must be; they are weighted with authority." (36) This line shows that Hale is confident in his abilities and trusts his books a lot. "I denounce these proceedings, I quit this court!"(120) This line shows that Hale is an honest man and cannot deal with the corruption of the court.
  • Important Quotes: "I must say it, Mr. Proctor; that is not for you to decide. The mans ordained, therefore the light of God is in him."(66) This quote portrays Hale's role in the play by showing that he's questioning the township. "Life, woman, life is Gods, most important gift; no principle, however glorious, may justify the taking of it." This quote shows Hale's role in the play during the end when he loses faith in the court.
  • Jawad Nathu and Jack Hartig and Adam Brenny
  • Important Lyrics: And even though I tried, it all fell apart What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of time and I tried so hard and got so far but in the end, it doesn't even matter
  • Explanation: The first lyrics fit really good with this character because Hale tried to stop the witch trials because he knew it was unfair and what later happened, (the hangings) will be a memory. The second lyrics also fit nicely with this character because he "found" 17 witches at first but then it didn't matter later on because he figured out that the witches were fake and they still got hung.
  • Song Title: In The End by Linkin Park
  • A crucible John Hale has faced would be severe test or trial. This test is finding the witches but later finding out that this whole thing was fake and trying to fix it but later failing in this aspect.
