  • Nobody wanted to hangout with Langston because of his race and color. All the kids made fun of him and called him stupid.
  • Nobody likes you, you can't play with us, stupid!
  • You're a little coward! You aren't even smart for a stupid kid like you!
  • There was going to be a Children's Day at the park, but only Whites could go...
  • Why can't I go? I'm no different than the other kids!
  • This kid ain't going nowhere in life.
  • What is he talking about? He's stupid!
  • Langston met up with his mother. She was planning on taking them to Chicago. After they had a disagreement, Langston's mother told him to give up on his dreams. He refused.
  • Mama, I don't want to move. I have friends here.
  • We're moving to Chicago. I think I can get a better job there.
  • Langston and Sartur talk about what they like to do after graduation. Langston told Sartur about his mother wanting to move to Chicago.
  • Mom wants me to go to Chicago, but i want to go to New York City!
  • So, what do you want to do after graduation?
  • Langston's father wanted Langston to go study engineering. Langston didn't want to become that, he wanted to become a poetry writer.
  • I'm sending you to study engineering in Germany. Then you will come work for me.
  • But , why must I go study a career I don't want father. I want to write poems.
  • Langston arrived at Harlem to pursue his dream, and to never let anyone tell him what he can't or can do.
  • Hopefully I will fit in and not be judge!
