The Abrofo 's was an African family from Luanda, Angola located in the Kingdom of Axum. During this time, it was found that many African Americans were being kidnapped. Abimola was 18 years old during this time period. He had a sister, mother and father who he lived who were very overprotective of each other because of the circumstances African American families were brought to.
One day Abimbola and his sister Abeni left home to go on a walk to get away from home for a while. Although they knew the dangers of being away from home during these times, they still took the risk. Moments later they found themselves facing someone they wish they had never met.
Months later Abimbola found himself on a slave ship with 382 other African American women, children and men. He was separated from his sister when they were first put on the ship and haven't seen her since. Being on this ship Abimbola witnessed hunger. loneliness, unsanitary living conditions and many different diseases by the many people on the ship.
Many of the captains on the slave ship were careless and selfish to the slaves on the ship. They didn't allow the slaves to use the restroom, eat at certain times or even cleanse themselves. Captain Alfonso Salvador was the head captain and put the salves through much harm. Soon many of the slaves jumped overboard and were never seen again.
It had been days since Abimbola had arrived in Cartegena, Columbia. Once they got off of the ship many of the slaves were given names, jobs and even traded after an amount of time.
Abimbola never found his sister Abeni after departing the ship. He had no choice but to follow the captain's rules and that's when he realized he would never see his sister again.
More than a half a year later Abimbola was traded from Cartegena, Columbia to Charleston, South Carolina. His condition of servitude was spent as a Field Hand working to pick cotton and tobacco.
Decades later the American Civil War started and it was a Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy . The main cause of this was because of slavery and furthermore the expansion of slavery. To conclude, by the Union 's victory in the Civil War and the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution in 1865 it caused millions of slaves to be set free.
