"My mother is cisgender, which means that she was born as a female and continued to identify with that label as she grew up. My parents love each other even though they are different," said Jeanette.
One day I went to Jeanette's house for a play date.
Her dad told me how hard it was for them to go through the adoption process.
"The adoption group didn't want us to have a child. They thought we would not be good parents because we were different from other families. They discriminated against us because I am transgender. They didn't like that I was different." said Mark.
"We almost gave up," Mark explained. "But one day, we met a woman named Terry. She said she supported our decision to start a family, and she let us adopt her baby when she was born."
I'll help you!
"Terry saved us," said Mark. "Without her believing in us, we would never have gotten the chance to be a complete family and welcome Jeanette into our lives."
All we needed was someone to believe in us and respect us. Terry's kindness was the beginning of the family we have and the house we're in.
