during this time, he had overcome Mara, an evil human, who challenged his right to become the Buddha. in that moment a pure enlightenment, Siddhartha Gautama became the Buddha.
for the remainder of his 80 years, Buddha traveled, preaching the Dharma, which is the name given to the teachings of the Buddha. He believed in peace. He wanted to lead others along the path of enlightenment, and when he died, it is said that he told his disciples that they should follow no leader.
The Buddha is one of the most influential figures in world history. His teachings have had a big influence on other religions, as well on literature and ideas, within India as well as all over the western world.
