A young boy finally gets a little brother, something that he's always wanted. But when his younger brother, William or "Doodle" is born sickly and invalid he is conflicted and despises the newborn and he is unable to accept his new little brother, he even planned on killing him.
SWhen Doodle is older, his older brother decides to Show him how to walk and do other things a normal six year old would. One day when Doodle was outside he noticed a helpless and unordinary bird who dies from falling, he related to the ibis. On one of the last days of training, Doodle starts to get weak and a storm breaks out
As a storm breaks out they both try to run away from it. As doodle is pushing his limits, trying to keep up with this older brother, he ends up getting left behind
As brother is running away from the storm he hearsDoodle cry "Brother, Brother, don't leave me! Don't leave me!"" and ends up deciding to go back and find him in the storm.
When the narrator or "brother" went back to doodle he saw him on the ground bleeding and giving no response. The narrator then realizes that through his own prideful and selfish ways he was at fault for his brothers death knowing well he had made him push his physical limits which led him to dying.
