37 year old Charlie Gordan was a mentally handicapped man with a 68 I.Q.. He is being used as a test subject for an operation said to increase the intelligence of a human being. He was scared because he had to take a test. The test was to beat a rat named Algernon in a maze race.
x times y equals Oh Baby.
He was disappointed because he lost 10 times but he was exited because the doctors said he would get the operation. This is special to him because his only motivation is to become intelligent.
Rest in cheese my boy Alge.
Charlie has the operation but it takes a while to start working. A few days later Charlie came back and started to form a bond with Algernon. Later he talked to Ms. Kinnian and she told him about his progress how not everyone is as nice as her.
Charlie's intelligence was starting to increase. Because of this he started to realize things and how his so called "friends" weren't really his friends. He soon quit his job as his boss suggested because everyone started to hate him. After leaving his job he began to feel alone. His intelligence was soon beginning to surpass his own teachers.
Algernon was acting hostile lately and bit Charlie. It seemed as though the experiment was waring off. Charlie began to look into this and is doing it without the inclusion of the doctors. It has come to his attention that Algernon is starting to regress and the operation still can't be used practically. It is also apparent that the same thing is happening to Charlie. Soon Algernon died.
After burying Algernon Charlie's regression became more and more apparent. His reading and comprehension abilities began to slip away. He even starts to gain symptoms of amnesia. He's so horrified of losing his intelligence he seems to be going insane. Soon it appears that Charlie is back at square one and he decides to leave New York. It ends with Charlie leaving a last note for those he felt cared for him.
