Storyboard Text

  • Where did he say we were supposed to row to?
  • I don't know. I thought you were paying attention.
  • WE MADE IT!!!
  • THANK GOD!!!
  • There you are! We have to hurry!
  • Hold your horses!
  • Yeah. SOMEONE got us lost on the stupid river.
  • Booth and Herold rowed on the Potomac River all the throughout darkened night before they finally realized that they were rowing the wrong way. They were still in Maryland, and if it weren't for Herold recognizing their landing spot, they probably would have never made it to Virginia.
  • Can you BELIEVE that he won't let us stay the night?
  • Yeah. Who wouldn't want to harbor fugitives like us?
  • David Herold and John Wilkes Booth wasted a full day on the river before finally making it to Virginia on April 22nd.
  • OKAY! Whatever you say.
  • You're gonna let us spend the night, or you're gonna get the pillowcase full of soap.
  • Once they made it onto dry land, Booth and Herold were helped by a woman named Elizabeth Quesenberry. She gave them horses to ride to Dr. Mudd's friend Dr. Stuart's farm.
  • Catch anything, boys?
  • Not a bullet in the neck. LOL.
  • Once at the Stuart farm, Herold and Booth were welcomed into their home for a nice dinner. However, Dr. Stuart didn't want them to spend the night, and Booth was thoroughly offended.
  • Booth threatened one of Stuart's neighbors until he let them stay the night at his home. The next morning, the neighbor's son drove the pair of criminals to meet a couple Confederate soldiers who promised to aid them in their escape.
  • Booth and Herold hitched a ride across the Rappahannock River on a fisherman's boat. William Rollins steered the pair further into Virginia territory in order to better their chances of escape.
