The British won the war, but got into massive debt doing so. They expected the colonists to pay for it since the war was for their benefit.
Over the next several years, the British ratified and repealed several acts and taxes with the colonists getting angrier about each one. One of these acts was the Tea Act which taxed the tea Britain knew the colonists loved.
The colonists were outraged and several Patriots dressed as Native Americans sneaked onto some ships carrying tea and dumped all the tea into the Boston Harbor. This became known as the Boston Tea Party.
In 1774, the Declaration of Independence was signed and in 1775, the first shot of the Revolutionary War was fired at Lexington and Concord.
