Many educators mistakenly believe that the IEP team should consider AT only for students with visual or physical disabilities, but in fact they should consider it for all students with disabilities.
Without the benefit of appropriateassistive technologies, many students continue to struggle academically.
It is a teachers job to know their student's strengths and needs in order to properly advocate for AT.They should receive training on the device and prepare for any challenges or adjustments in instruction. An implementation team should be put together to find the appropriate device for students to be able to participate in the general education curriculum.

Maya's family advocated to find an AT device that worked for her. Before long she was able to start speaking in sentences.
Despite being told no, Maya's family knew she was ready to communicate.. she just needed the right tools.
