Win, this is NOT SAFE! You can either sit down on the bean bag or on the table while we work on cutting out our pictures. You may NOT stand on the table!
Win, you did an amazing job writing your name! You want to do some squishies next?
Oh my goodness! I guess sometimes, you need to put your foot down when safety is involved. It's so important to be able to switch between therapeutic modes when needed!
...Later on that day...
You know, I almost never eat in the lounge. I always stay here and try to get notes and other work done. Why don't we have our lunches in the lounge today?
I think that's a great idea. Sometimes you need a change of scenery and space to decompress!
Lunch Break and Reflection
This is great! I need to come here more often!
Hahaha! That's a great idea!
Yes, definitely! This should be a smart goal. "Eat lunch in the teachers' lounge for at least 20 minutes, 3 times per week by the end of December"!
This is Winslow. He's in 1st grade and he has autism. Winslow absolutely loves deep pressure! His favorite thing to do during his sessions is getting "squished" under the big blue mat so we try to use this activity to encourage him or help calm him when he needs it.
Some days are more challenging than others. These are the moments when you should take time for yourself to disconnect, even if it's just for a few minutes. Being productive at work is great! However, we need to remember to check in with ourselves throughout the day and simply reflect and relax.
The day isn't over yet, but we have at least taken some time to decompress and now have some time for questions and answers! I am excited to see what the rest of the day brings and what knowledge and tips Stephanie, the occupational therapist, will have to share!
