  • Czar Nicholas II became in control in 1894. His father, Alexander III was a very crule man to his people. He made the secret police, imposed strict censorship, and made Russan the official language you had to speak. Sadly, Nicholas continued this autocracy.
  • The March Revolution
  • Down with the autocracy!!!!!
  • Bloody Sunday was an important day for the workers in Russia. 200,000 workers go to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg with hope of perswading Nicholas II. They wanted better working conditions, more freedoms, and an elected national legislature. However, the solidiers fired on the workers, killing many. To prevent chaos, Nicholas created the Duma, but he did not want to share power, so it was no more.

  • World War I greatly impacted the Russian revolution. Russia suffered many losses during the war and many soldiers mutinied. There were many shortages of food and supplies due to supplying it all to the war, however they still struggled. People demanded change and an end to the war. This showed weakness to Czarist rule.

  • In Petrograd, Women textile workers led a city wide strike. They rioted because they wanted more bread and fuel for them to live. Many workers were involved and even the soldiers joined in. They shouted "Down with the autocracy," and " Down with the war!"

  • After Czar Nicholas II and his family were murdered, Lenin took control. He immediately gave all farm land to the peasants, the factories to the workers, and signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsle with Germany. He also had plans to revive Russia's economy and succedes! However this was all at the cost of the people. Many of the people die of famine.
  • After the death of Lenin, Stalin takes control. Now that Stalin is in power, he restores a land ruled by an Autocracy. Stalin however, is much worse than all the Czars. He craves power as an Absolute Dictator!
