Storyboard Text

  • King Alexander III of Scotland dies, leaving no heir.
  • Edward wanted to be more involved with Scotland (for he still had his eye on them to be part of his kingdom). He proposed the idea that the new queen-to-be (Alexander's granddaughter), Margaret should marry his son Edward when she was old enough, because she was only three at the moment.
  • Margaret, Maid of Norway and Alexander's granddaughter was put on a ship to go to Scotland. But she died on the way there!
  • Uh oh.
  • The Scottish were scared a civil war would break out, and so, they asked Edward I of England to decide who their king would be. Edward agreed on the condition that the person he chose would have HIM as their overlord!
  • The list of 14 contestants was narrowed down to Robert the Bruce and John Balliol.
  • I choose: John Balliol!
  • John Balliol was crowned king on 30th November 1292. But... Robert the Bruce was angry and he had most of the Scottish lords on his side! Meanwhile, Edward was happy being John's overlord!
