Fredrick Douglass was a 19th centary author that wrote about his life and other slaves life after the Civil War. He was a slave that escaped slavery and learned how to read and write through his owners. He was the leader of the anti- slavery movement.
The Underground Railroad was a network of people including African Americans and white would allow shelter for slaves that wanted to escape to the south. The "stations" were people homes and there would hidden rooms so the slaves could hide in. About 40,000 slaves were freed.
Harriet escaped slavery and was the most famous conduction during the Underground Railroad. She went back 19 times to save her family and about 300 other slaves. Her capture cost was about $40,000.
