Storyboard Text

  • They abolished slavery and declared that all men were equal.
  • ALL MEN ARE EQUAL!
  • Unfortunately, Haiti didn't get the happy ending the US did. France lobbied with other countries and convinced them not to trade with Haiti. Even the US, who feared that the Haitian Revolution would inspire a slave revolt in the US.
  • Wanna trade?
  • No
  • This lead Haiti into poverishment, since they had no one to trade with and not enough resources to sustain well without trade.
  • I'm sorry honey, I don't have any food.
  • Mom, I'm hungry.
  • Toussaint was soooo close to winning and finishing the war.... but he was captured.
  • Two new leaders came and finished the war for Toussaint. Their names were Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Henry Christophe.
  • FREEDOM! FREEDOM! FREEDOM!
  • Dessalines became the first president of Haiti, and him and Christophe wrote a new constitution for Haiti.
  • Fun fact: Dessalines named the new country Haiti, which is what the indigenous people called it before Europeans discovered it and renamed it something else.
